Former Rep. J.D. Hayworth (R-AZ), who is challenging Sen. John McCain in the Republican primary, said that the United States did not formally declare war on Germany in World War II — at least, that’s how it went in his history.

By “in my history”, he means, in my high school history class, as I remember it these many decades later. He doesn’t mean that he has his very own history. That take on what he said is inconsistent with his willingness to have the thing checked. If Hayworth had meant that he had his own history, there wouldn’t be any point to talk about checking.
Hayworth is ignorant and should have known better. But he’s not claiming to live off in some alternate timeline.

I strongly suspect he’s a fan of the “liberals rewrite history!” meme, and that is at least partly what he meant by “in my history”.
